Its official international name is Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration (note: Celebration, not Anniversary). In Japan it's MEGA Expansion Pack 30th CELEBRATION, set code M6a, placing it inside the 2026 Mega Evolution era (inspired by Pokémon Legends: Z-A). It's a special anniversary expansion, not a regular set: it mixes new cards with classic reprints from across the game's history.

Release date and simultaneous worldwide launch

It releases September 16, 2026. The Pokémon Company describes it verbatim as "the first [expansion] to have a simultaneous global release, allowing fans across the world to enjoy collecting new cards at the same time" — the first TCG set (including, per Bulbapedia, Simplified Chinese) to launch the same day in every region, without the usual 2–3 month gap behind Japan.

For the record: the "first simultaneous global release" is Pokémon's own marketing claim, not independently verifiable — we report it as exactly that.

The headline feature: everything is foil

The set's defining trait: every single card is foil, including Basic Energy cards. Each booster pack holds five foil cards plus one foil Basic Energy (six foils total) and guarantees one of 30 unique Pikachu illustrations, each by a different artist. Of those 30 artists, only three are revealed as of late July 2026: OKACHEKE, Yuu Nishida, and Atsuko Nishida (the last one an original Pikachu designer).

The star: the new "Futuristic Rare" rarity

The set debuts a brand-new rarity, the Futuristic Rare, with a color-shifting (opalescent) finish — a star symbol that shifts color per card; in Asian markets it appears as "FUR". It debuts illustrated by acclaimed Japanese graphic artist YOSHIROTTEN, with Mewtwo ex and Mew ex as its first cards.

The pattern is clear, and it's not "everything goes up":

• The chases and iconic reprints hold: the beloved Surfing Pikachu VMAX still trades near $8, the gold Mew Secret Rare near $65, and the Classic Collection Charizard runs $77–130 per various reports — all far above the price of a pack.
• The bulk of the set drops: cards like Zacian V (~$0.74) or Lugia (~$0.85) are worth less than a coffee today.

Honest takeaway: anniversary sets concentrate their value in a few of the right cards (the new Mewtwo/Mew Futuristic Rare, the top reprints). Don't buy boxes expecting "everything to go up"; if you're after value, target the specific chases — and remember a sealed anniversary set sometimes ages better than loose bulk singles.
